At Massapequa Podiatry Associates, we’re always looking for new, evidence-tested and FDA-approved technology and techniques to serve you better and heal your foot pain faster. And now, we have another great treatment option we can offer our patients: K-Laser.

This class IV therapeutic laser has really revolutionized the way we can treat painful inflammatory conditions, especially for athletes and active individuals. If you want to get back to full speed as fast as possible, or finally overcome a chronic condition that just doesn’t seem to heal, K-Laser therapy may be right for you.

What Conditions Can Be Treated With K-Laser?

K-Laser therapy can provide rapid pain relief, accelerated tissue generation and healing processes for a wide range of common inflammatory conditions and injuries, including:

Alone or combined with other conservative treatments (physical therapy, footwear changes, etc.), K-Laser therapy can significantly shorten the recovery time for painful conditions and allow you to return to work or sports faster, reduce or eliminate your reliance on medications, and avoid surgery.

How Does It Work?

All bodies have an “innate desire” to heal themselves, and your cells automatically initiate natural repair mechanisms after an injury. However, this process doesn’t always go as quickly as we would like—and if the body fails to properly heal itself, pain and inflammation can become chronic.

The therapeutic laser energy interacts with cellular tissues and stimulates and accelerates these natural repair mechanisms. It does this by using light at four different wavelengths:

  • 970 nm laser: Stimulates local circulation and blood flow, so more oxygen and nutrients can be transported to the injured area and waste products like lactic acid can be removed.
  • 915 nm laser: Stimulates hemoglobin so that your cells can absorb oxygen from the blood at a higher rate.
  • 810nm laser: Stimulates enzymes critical for converting oxygen to ATP, which provides energy to the cells and accelerates healing.
  • 650nm laser: Stimulates repair of superficial tissues (skin) and helps your body fight off bacteria and infection.

The combination of these therapeutic effects creates an accelerated “healing environment” to rapidly reduce inflammation and pain, regenerate tissue, and restore function.

What Can I Expect from Treatment?

Treatment courses vary based on the nature of the injury.

Individual treatment sessions are relatively brief—often lasting less than 10 minutes. A typical treatment course might be 4-6 daily sessions for acute conditions, or 6-12 sessions spaced out over 2-6 weeks for chronic conditions. Chronic pain is treated 2 to 3 times per week total of 6 to 12 treatments

Treatments are cumulative, meaning your results will get better and better after each session until the pain has been eliminated. Some people already feel significantly better after one session; for others it may take a few sessions.

Laser therapy is also:

  • Painless—you may feel a slight warming or tingling, but there will be little to no sensation during or after treatment
  • Free from side effects—after 20 years of research and testing worldwide, reports of minor and temporary side effects are rare, and no known major side effects have ever been reported.
  • No contraindications—K-Laser therapy can be safely combined with other forms of treatment, such as physical therapy or even surgery, to even greater effect. The K-Laser is never used on a patient who is pregnant or a cancer patient.

We are so excited to be able to offer this treatment option to our patients. It has already made a huge difference in their lives, and it can help you to!
